Nestled on the banks of the canal and facing the Pacific ocean, Panama City is a captivating high point of a holiday in Panama. its high rise skyline is testament to its economic dynamism and has also earned it the nickname of « Panamanhattan ». In stark contrast there is the quaint historic colonial district of Casco Viejo, which beckons the visitor to take a leisurely stroll and discover some local delicacies and traditional panamanian gastronomy.
Visiting the Panama canal always proves to be a fascinating experience! This marvel of human ingenuity is observed a few kilometers from the capital from the viewpoint at the « Miraflores visitors center ». It is from the observatory in this privileged location that you can see the endless stream of the boats making their way up and down the 77 km of the canal.
But above all, a holiday in Panama is an opportunity to admire the many natural treasures of this tropical country. The country’s efforts to preserve its native flora and fauna are clearly visible in its numerous nature reserves, such as the Chagres or Darien park, the largest in Panama. Comprised of islands, the Coiba national park is specialized in aquatic species. During a visit you will no doubt catch a glimpse of turtles of humpback whales in their natural habitat, as well as a plethora of exotic fish!
Furthermore, on the east side of the country, the Baru volcano commands 360 degree panoramic views over both coastlines of the country, Atlantic and Pacific. Each one rivaling the other in beauty, with idyllic beaches which have what it takes to captivate every traveler, whether you are a surfing buff (Santa Catalina beach), scuba diving enthusiast (archipelago of Bocas del Toro) or whether you just want to lounge in the sun!
